Hackett Catholic Prep continues its tradition of highlighting student creativity in the Fall Play. This year, an original adaptation of Rip Van Winkle—written by senior Parker Hosner—has earned the top spot.
Parker’s retelling follows a well-intentioned father whose fondness for drink strains his relationship with his family. After a heated argument, Rip escapes into the forest to clear his mind, where he encounters mysterious elves who offer to ease his troubles with a magical drink. Instead, Rip is unknowingly put into a deep sleep. When he awakens twenty years later, he discovers that his town has forgotten him. As he struggles to convince others of his unbelievable tale—including his own daughter—Rip comes to understand the cost of placing anything above the people he loves most.
Parker, a senior at Hackett Catholic Prep, has been an active member of the theatre program since his freshman year. A lifelong lover of movies and stage productions, he began making his own films at age nine and has continued to grow his skills in cinematography, visual effects, writing, composing, and acting. He plans to attend film school after graduation and hopes to pursue a career as a filmmaker.
